A global company that disposes, recycles and reuses redundant or retired office technology like servers, storage laptops and computers has chosen Reading as its UK headquarters. IT asset disposal company Wisetek Solutions opened in Sutton Business Park on Tuesday, January 29. Wisetek will provide IT asset disposition, data disposal and data destruction services to a number of multinational organisations in the London and surrounding areas. The Reading location will initially hire over 10 new employees this year and numbers are expected to grow beyond that. Reading’s surroundings and access to London were a major factor in the opening of the new office, which is the company’s only base in the UK.
Dennis Frize, an experienced IT asset end-of-life solutions architect, who will head up the organisation as Managing Director of Wisetek UK, said:
“I am delighted to lead Wisetek’s expansion in introducing the strategic benefits of circular economy processes to the UK market. The greater Reading, Berkshire area is a hub for technology and our new facility will serve as a springboard to service our existing and new clients in the UK and across Europe.
“The support we have received from the Department for International Trade has been invaluable to the success of our set-up in the UK. They have made key introductions to new partners in the Thames Valley area who have helped to facilitate this project. We are looking forward to an active, ongoing relationship as our business continues to expand its operations in the UK.”
Mr Frize explained that the opening of Wisetek UK comes as the Government will begin a consultation on changing its waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) initiative to incentivise more sustainable product design and increase recycling.
Paul Britton, CEO at Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce, commented:
“We welcome the addition of Wisetek to the region and the growing cluster of IP-rich, technology-based firms choosing the Thames Valley. Their investment reaffirms the proven strength of the region for new, high growth, investors. Working in collaboration with our partners, the Department for International Trade, we were pleased to help Wisetek with their company set-up, providing access to sector experts, support and regional networks.”
Sean Sheehan, Chief Executive of Wisetek, said:
“As Wisetek expands across the globe, it is a logical step for the company to enter the market.
“Wisetek’s expansion into the UK is a strategic decision to bring our unique data destruction and IT asset disposal operations to the thriving tech industry and business community in Britain.”
The opening was attended by the Mayor of Wokingham Borough John Kaiser, who was taken on a tour of the base.
The UK headquarters in Reading is one of nine of the company’s offices in the world, with bases in Ireland, the United States, Dubai and Thailand.
